Choir Director Seth Waters
This week, our spotlight of gratitude belongs to Seth Waters. For those who may not know him, Seth is our wonderful Choir Director and has been faithfully leading the choir for about three years. In this article, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Seth and what his experience has been like in this role.
Seth’s musical journey in the church began at a young age. He joined his hometown church choir when he was just 9 years old and remained a dedicated member until he was about 16. His time in the choir came to an end when he accepted his first church job at another congregation, where he began playing the organ. It is fair to say that much of Seth’s musical foundation was built within the life of the church. After high school, Seth stepped away from full-time church roles to pursue his education.
Seth attended the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a degree in Music Education with a focus on vocal performance. During his time there, he had the opportunity to work with many talented professors, including our very own David Ripley, further refining his musical gifts. After college, Seth continued to stay connected to church music, serving in various fill-in roles where needed.
In 2017, Seth found his way to Newmarket Community Church, initially serving as a substitute choir director and stepping in on Sundays when needed. In 2023, when the church was in need of a new Choir Director, Seth stepped up to take on the role full-time. We are incredibly grateful that he did.
When asked about his experience as Choir Director, Seth shared, “I love the sense of freedom I get in my role. It allows me to be creative and makes things more fun.” He also spoke about how much he values the sense of community within the choir. There is a deep level of support and care among its members, something that helps him show up to each choir session with a sense of gratitude.
Seth expressed sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve through music. While he acknowledges that he does not always get to choose every song and that there will always be differing opinions, his heart remains focused on what matters most. He aims to create connection and bring joy to the community through music. As a church, we are deeply grateful for the way he continues to do just that.
