A Heart for Service: Rob Sargent's Journey at NCC

If you've spent much time at Newmarket Community Church over the past several years, chances are you've crossed paths with Rob Sargent. Whether serving in leadership, helping behind the scenes, welcoming people on Sunday mornings, or lending a hand wherever needed, Rob has become an integral part of our church community.

Rob first came to NCC in 2016 while serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 200. He attended a Scout Sunday service and found himself drawn to something different than what he had experienced growing up. What began as a single visit soon became a church home, and in 2020, he officially became a member of the congregation.

One of the things that has kept Rob involved over the years is the people. He values the strong sense of community at NCC and appreciates the church's progressive spirit and commitment to serving others. For Rob, being part of a congregation that seeks to make a positive impact both within and beyond its walls is deeply meaningful.

Throughout his time at NCC, Rob has worn many hats. He has served as Welcome Team Coordinator, Deacon, Liturgist, a member of the AV Team, and currently serves as Moderator. While the roles have varied, the heart behind them has remained the same."I was raised to have a strong sense of service to others," Rob shared. "I volunteer in service to build a better world for all of us to live in." That commitment to service extends far beyond any particular title. Rob says that helping others is what he finds most rewarding. Whenever he has the opportunity to support someone or contribute to the life of the church, he considers it meaningful work.

Serving at NCC has also strengthened his faith. Through his involvement, Rob has found deeper meaning in Christ's teachings and grown closer to God. His experiences remind us that service is not only something we do for others—it can also shape and enrich our own spiritual journeys. When asked what service means to him, Rob offered a thoughtful reflection: "Service is performing acts that improve the world in small ways, which have a big impact."

Rob's dedication, generosity, and willingness to step forward wherever there is a need are gifts to our church community. We are grateful for the many ways he serves, and for the example he sets through his commitment to making a difference, one act of service at a time.
