Helping NCC Bloom

If you've been greeted with a warm smile on Sunday morning, admired the flowers and plants adorning the altar, or visited the thrift shop, chances are you've experienced the kindness and dedication of Kathy Travaglini.

Kathy first connected with NCC during the COVID-19 pandemic, watching services online from home. Raised in the Methodist Church, she immediately felt a sense of familiarity and comfort with NCC. It wasn't long before a recommendation from her friend Judy Koski led her to become more involved in the church community.

"I felt such joy when I found this community that I wanted to participate and get to know the people around me," Kathy shared.

That desire to connect quickly turned into service. Kathy began volunteering at both the Food Pantry and the Thrift Shop, where she enjoys helping people and fostering meaningful conversations. She speaks fondly of the thrift shop team, describing them as a wonderful group of women who work together to serve the community while offering quality items at affordable prices. She is quick to add that new volunteers are always welcome.

In addition to her work with the thrift shop, Kathy lovingly cares for the plants and flowers around the church. She enjoys seeing greenery and fresh blooms on the altar and takes pride in helping the plants thrive. "Taking care of them makes me happy," she said.

As a member of the Welcome Team, Kathy enjoys greeting familiar faces and offering newcomers a friendly introduction to NCC. Her warm presence helps create the welcoming atmosphere that so many people experience when they walk through the church doors. For Kathy, serving is deeply connected to her faith. She credits Pastor Patty's leadership, grace, and love, along with the support of fellow parishioners, for helping her deepen her relationship with God. Through annual women's retreats, monthly women's group meetings, and weekly worship, she continues to grow spiritually.

"I enter church each Sunday with anticipation and leave with inspiration and nearness to God," Kathy reflected. At the heart of Kathy's service is gratitude. "I serve because I am so grateful for the constant reminders of how blessed I am," she shared. "Serving is my way of showing gratitude for all of God's blessings."

Kathy's story is a reminder that the many small acts of service that happen each week help make NCC feel like home. Through her welcoming spirit, faithful service, and grateful heart, she continues to bless our church community in countless ways.
